Alberto Del Rio, a former WWE Champion and one of the most prominent Mexican wrestlers in recent history, has been through a whirlwind of highs and lows. Despite his in-ring success, a series of controversies have left a dark cloud over his career. One incident that stands out is his 2020 arrest on assault and kidnapping charges, which were later proven false.
Del Rio was accused of assaulting and kidnapping his ex-fiancée, leading to a dramatic fall from grace. However, the charges were dropped after it was revealed that the allegations were made out of revenge for his infidelity. Still, the damage to his reputation was done, and Del Rio found himself sidelined from the wrestling world for over a year.
In a recent interview with Sportskeeda Wrestling, Del Rio opened up about how these false accusations tarnished his career. He claims that despite his accomplishments in wrestling and ventures in acting and Latin American reality TV, his “legacy was stolen” due to the allegations.
Del Rio emphasized how difficult it’s been to rebuild his image, but his passion for wrestling never wavered. He made his return to the ring in 2021, determined to reclaim what he believes was unfairly taken from him.
“My legacy was stolen from me,” Del Rio stated. “It was taken away from me. It’s not something that I lost. It was stolen from somebody, and even though I was doing other stuff, doing some acting, doing some reality shows in Latin America, and it was fun, there was always that fire inside of me telling me, ‘Wrestling is your passion, wrestling is your love, and that’s what made you be the man you are today. You have to go and reclaim your legacy because it’s there waiting for you.'”
Despite everything, Del Rio remains optimistic about his future in WWE. He’s confident that he will eventually be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, and he’s even expressed his desire to retire in the WWE.
In the world of professional wrestling, surprises are always around the corner. Could we see Alberto Del Rio make a WWE comeback? Only time will tell.
