Last year, WWE and UFC were brought together under the TKO banner, creating a major shift in the sports entertainment world. As part of ongoing changes, there has been a reduction in WWE’s live events. RVD now believes that this trend could continue, potentially leading WWE to evolve into a product focused solely on television in the future.
Since WWE’s merger into TKO Group Holdings, several changes have subtly reshaped the promotion, including a clear reduction in live events. While WWE continues to air multiple live TV broadcasts each week, there’s been a noticeable decline in their focus on house shows.
While speaking on his 1 Of A Kind podcast, RVD talked about WWE cutting back on live shows and said that if most of their money is coming from TV, there might not be much reason to keep doing live events. He believes WWE could eventually become just a TV show if that’s where the money is.
“If they’re making most of their business off of TV and not at the actual live events, then there’s not as much incentive to even do them. You know, I could see it maybe becoming just a television product if that’s the way that the money flowed.”
Mark Shapiro explained the reason for WWE cutting down on house shows, which will continue into 2025 as well. Nonetheless, we’ll have to wait and see if WWE will end up doing away with live events for good one day, as the company is clearly making a lot of money from television.
