The September 17 WWE NXT did a lot to hype the black and gold brand’s move to The CW, and CM Punk was on hand for one of the most-hyped segments of the night. In the end, it was announced that he will be the special referee for Ethan Page and Trick Williams’ NXT Title match in Chicago on October 1, but that’s not all Punk did during the two-hour show.
CM Punk was also involved in a segment with Roxanne Perez and Giulia during NXT last week. During that time, Roxanne Perez took the opportunity to let Punk know that he was her favorite wrestler when she was 13-years-old, although she did also admit that she always preferred AJ Lee. That was a nice segment, but things also didn’t add up.
During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that 21-year-old Roxanne Perez fudged the numbers for her promo on NXT this week. In reality, she wouldn’t have been 13 when CM Punk was a part of WWE. It turns out that they didn’t do the right math before writing the promo.
“Wasn’t … when she was 13, wasn’t he already gone? Like, not wrestling. Eight years ago? So, he would have been long gone. 8 years ago, that’s 2016, and he left a couple of years earlier.”
While it’s always possible that Roxanne Perez simply said the wrong age in her promo, odds are that NXT didn’t do the right addition. After all, it’s pretty clear that she was a huge fan of CM Punk and AJ Lee prior to getting into pro wrestling herself.
We will have to see how this storyline turns out during NXT’s Chicago debut on October 1. The CW will provide a fine home for the black and gold brand. They won’t have any overrun, so hopefully, they will be able to get the two-hour show completed in time without having to cut fans off early like they did with the September 13 WWE SmackDown return to the USA Network.
Tickets for the October 1 NXT in Chicago’s Allstate Arena are going fast. Fans can still get tickets on TicketMaster.
