It’s no secret that rap superstar Megan Thee Stallion has been on the radar of the professional wrestling world.
Mojo Rawley recently confirmed that Megan was slated to appear at WWE SummerSlam in the past, with plans to have her involved in a segment with Mercedes Moné, who was performing as Sasha Banks in WWE at the time. Although the appearance didn’t happen, fans have been left wondering what could have been.
Fast forward to August 2024, Mercedes Moné, now the reigning AEW TBS Champion and NJPW Strong Women’s Champion, expressed her excitement about the possibility of working with Megan Thee Stallion in an AEW ring. In a recent interview, Moné teased the idea, saying, “I want to see her in an AEW ring,” sparking a wave of speculation.
Meanwhile, WWE recently announced that Megan’s hit track “Neva Play,” featuring RM of BTS, would be the new theme for SmackDown as the show moved to USA Network on September 13th. This only fueled more intrigue, with fans eager to see if Megan would be involved in the world of wrestling in some capacity.
In the latest edition of Moné Mag, Mercedes offered more details about her conversations with Megan and the attempts to bring her into the wrestling fold. She reflected on how close the two came to collaborating, giving insight into behind-the-scenes talks. Mercedes also admits that she should have kept her mouth shut about the whole after ordeal, after learning that WWE was using her music for the new SmackDown theme song.
“Sports Illustrated and other sources reported on conversations between my advocate Kev, and Meg’s manager, Mike B., regarding her and me doing stuff at AEW. It’s true. A few weeks ago in an interview, I made the mistake of teasing the idea, which made headlines. More recently, it was announced that Meg would be part of the new Smackdown theme. It could all be a coincidence, of course. But then, they don’t call me the blueprint for nothing. In hindsight, I should have kept my mouth shut about it but all you can do is live and learn. I’m flattered and honored in a way, as it proves we are clearly on the right path. While I would have loved to work with Meg and would have loved to see her work with our brand, I’m still happy for her. She’s a great person and talent who will get exposure to the vast wrestling audience. Trust in this, AEW and Team Moné have a lot more brewing so it’s all good. You all will just have to wait this time to hear about it. ;)”
Mercedes Moné has continued to shine as one of wrestling’s biggest stars, recently defending her AEW TBS Title against Hikaru Shida at AEW All Out. Whether or not Megan Thee Stallion ever steps into an AEW ring, Moné’s influence on both the wrestling and pop culture worlds is undeniable.
As the wrestling world remains eager to see where Megan Thee Stallion lands, WWE and AEW are clearly both interested in getting the rap superstar involved. The only question is, who will secure her first? Let us know in the comments.
