WWE has let a number of people go over the past few years, and many were surprised to see Zach Ryder released after over a decade with the company. It was a big shock for him as well, but Matt Cardona used the experience to really turn things around for himself.

In a new video, Matt Cardona stated that “I needed to get fired to become the best version of myself.” He explained that WWE was offering massive contracts to a ton of talent when AEW opened their doors, but he didn’t sign that deal. Then he was fired in a string of budget cuts, and he said, “it was such a f*cking relief.” WWE made the decision for him to leave, but he’s glad it happened.

Although Matt Cardona admits that there are nights when he’s on the indies that he doesn’t know what it’s even worth it, the drive is still there. If a WWE return ever does come around, he knows he will make a difference.

“It’s not just like ‘I wanna be back there.’ Everyone wants to be back there, but I know if I was back, I’d make a f*cking difference.”

Only time will tell what is in the next chapter for Cardona, but he is still in great shape to take whatever challenge that is ahead of him.

While Cardona watches his wife, Chelsea Green, perform on WWE programming every week, he must want to get on the road with her. We will have to see if that husband and wife traveling act ever takes off again.
