WWE is getting proactive as several talent contracts near their expiration dates, and the company is looking to lock in its top stars before they hit free agency.

According to Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp, WWE has already reached out to multiple talents about re-signing, signaling a shift from the more relaxed approach seen earlier this year.

One notable name in these contract talks is Kevin Owens. A WWE source confirmed that Owens has been approached for a new deal, though he has yet to sign anything. Owens’ contract is set to expire at the end of this year, and with time ticking, WWE is hoping to secure his future before other promotions come knocking.

“Kevin Owens has been approached for a new contract. We’re told that Owens has not signed a new deal as of yet, but communication has been made. His contract is expected to be up at the end of the year.”

And speaking of other promotions, AEW has reportedly been eyeing Owens for quite some time. Sources within AEW have expressed major interest in bringing him on board if he reaches free agency. Should Owens decide not to re-sign with WWE, AEW is expected to make a substantial offer to lure him in.

“Those that we spoke to in AEW said that the company has long had major interest in bringing Owens in when and if he’s available. They’re expected to make him an offer if he reaches free agency.”

In 2024, WWE has already successfully re-signed major talents like Sheamus, Drew McIntyre, Seth Rollins, Natalya, Humberto Carrillo, Shayna Baszler, Angel Garza, Cedric Alexander, and Nikki Cross. WWE’s focus is clearly on maintaining its roster strength, with Kevin Owens being one of the next key players they hope to retain.

With Kevin Owens’ contract status up in the air, fans are left wondering whether he’ll stay with WWE or explore opportunities elsewhere—perhaps in AEW, where the interest is clearly mutual.
