WWE provided Paul Wight with a long and successful career in the ring, but he eventually made the decision to sign with AEW. Although he has been in the ring a couple of times for Tony Khan, Wight hasn’t seen much action overall. This is something he hopes will change.
Paul Wight is a celebrated professional wrestler with a career that spans over two decades. He made his debut in WCW during the mid-1990s, quickly gaining recognition for his impressive size and agility, which made him a key figure in the promotion. Wight later joined WWE, where he captured multiple championships, including the WWE Championship and the World Heavyweight Championship. With such a rich history in professional wrestling, one might expect Wight to be booked more frequently in AEW.
In a recent interview with Fightful Select, Wight expressed his desire to return to the ring. He candidly stated, “God, I hope so. Because Tony Khan paid me a sh*t ton of money to get in the ring, and so far, I haven’t done sh*t.”
As it stands, Paul Wight’s most recent match did not take place in AEW. His last actual appearance occurred on September 1, 2024, during Chris Jericho’s Rock ‘N’ Wrestling Rager At Sea. In that match, Wight teamed up with Chris Jericho and Mike Bailey, known collectively as Speedball JeriShow, to defeat The Don Callis Family. This event was part of the Jericho Cruise 2024, held on the Norwegian Pearl Cruise Ship. Jericho is always planning his next voyage on the Jericho Cruise website.
Prior to that, during the November 15, 2023 AEW Dynamite, Wight participated in a street fight. He teamed with Kota Ibushi and The Golden Jets, comprised of Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega, to secure a victory over Brian Cage and The Don Callis Family, which included Konosuke Takeshita, Kyle Fletcher, and Powerhouse Hobbs.
Looking ahead, it remains to be seen what Wight will do next. There’s potential for Captain Insano to make a comeback as well, especially since Tony Khan now owns that character. Only time will tell how everything unfolds, but Wight appears ready for a creative direction.
