Current AEW World Heavyweight Champion Bryan Danielson recently opened up about his ongoing neck issues in an interview with Justin Barrasso of Undisputed. The injury concerns are eerily similar to those he faced leading up to his iconic WrestleMania XXX victory and eventual retirement from WWE. Danielson, who has been a vital part of AEW’s roster, is again battling health challenges as his career reaches another defining moment.

During the interview, Danielson reflected on the similarities between his WrestleMania XXX win, where he defeated Randy Orton and Batista for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, and his recent victory at All In 2024. He acknowledged that while both victories were major milestones in his career, they were also shadowed by health concerns. Before WrestleMania XXX, doctors warned him that neck surgery was inevitable, and he pushed through despite shooting nerve pain down his right arm.

“I was able to get through WrestleMania. I’d been getting this horrible, shooting nerve pain down my right arm. But as long as I still had strength in my right arm, that meant I didn’t need surgery yet,” Bryan recounted.

However, Danielson’s symptoms worsened shortly after his big victory. In a sobering memory, he shared how his condition deteriorated to the point where he struggled with everyday tasks, including unlocking his car.

“I got into my car to make the drive, and when I went to unlock my car door, I didn’t have the strength to turn the key. That was a bad sign,” he remembered.

Unfortunately, Danielson’s current situation mirrors those difficult times. He admitted that he will need neck surgery “sooner rather than later” but is delaying it for as long as possible. “I’m not losing strength, so I don’t need it just yet,” he said, acknowledging the inevitable.

The uncertainty around Danielson’s health has also cast doubt over his participation in a potential match against Nigel McGuinness at AEW Grand Slam in Arthur Ashe Stadium on September 25, 2024. McGuinness has issued a challenge, but the match remains unconfirmed due to Danielson’s health status.

Fans are left hoping for the best as Bryan Danielson navigates his ongoing battle with injuries. Will he be able to step into the ring for Grand Slam, or will his neck issues force him to step back once again? Only time will tell.
