The idea of professional wrestling coming to the Sphere in Las Vegas has been a hot topic of speculation among fans, especially after the venue’s successful debut with UFC 306 on September 14, which generated $22 million in ticket sales alone. However, according to Jeff Jarrett, bringing a wrestling event to the venue might be more complicated than it seems.
On the latest episode of My World, AEW’s Director of Business Development’s Jeff Jarrett revealed that he’s heard the cost to run a show at the Sphere could be as high as $20 million. This staggering price tag, combined with the logistics of promoting a wrestling event, makes it unlikely that any promotion will run a show at the venue within the next year.
“I heard the number was 20 million. Wembley Stadium, next week Arthur Ashe, built for tennis, wrestling next Wednesday, but it ain’t cheap. When I put on my promoter cap and really look at the [return on investment], I would say it’s just impossible. To run a show in the Sphere, I don’t see it happening within the next twelve months. I just don’t,” Jarrett explained.
Conrad Thompson, Jarrett’s co-host, expressed skepticism about the $20 million figure, but Jarrett remained firm, stressing that a wrestling promotion would need to generate an enormous amount of revenue for it to make sense. “A lot of revenue has got to be generated for that to make sense,” Jarrett added.
While WWE WrestleMania 41 is already set to take place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, the Sphere remains an intriguing possibility for future events. Earlier this year, Tony Khan even discussed the idea of potentially running an AEW event at the venue, though no formal plans have been announced.
