AEW is set to make a splash in Australia with their Grand Slam 2025 event, scheduled for February 15, 2025, at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Queensland. This decision required extensive planning, as Tony Khan was committed to ensuring every detail was executed perfectly.

When asked whether AEW considered other cities for Grand Slam in Australia, especially given Brisbane’s less obvious appeal compared to Melbourne’s larger population and more suitable stadiums, Sean Ross Sapp provided insight on his Fightful Select podcast. He confirmed that AEW did indeed send a team to conduct site surveys across various locations in Australia before making their decision.

It was also emphasized that this choice was not made hastily; rather, it was part of a well-thought-out plan that had been in the works for some time. This is obviously a decision that took some time to put together, considering its great scale.

“Yes, AEW sent a team to do site surveys for some of the places in Australia before deciding. This wasn’t a move they took lightly, but one they were planning a while.”

We’ll have to wait and see how Grand Slam performs in Australia. Given that it’s AEW’s inaugural event in the country, it’s likely to draw a significant crowd of local fans. This mirrors the excitement of the early Grand Slam shows at Arthur Ashe Stadium, although attendance numbers have gradually declined over the years. In 2021, the event attracted 20,177 attendees, followed by 13,800 in 2022, and then dropped to 11,000 in 2023.

AEW Grand Slam 2024 will go down on September 25 at Arthur Ashe Stadium, where they will tape Dynamite and Collision. Tickets for the show can be found on TicketMaster.
