WWE’s NXT brand is gearing up for a major leap to The CW on October 1, and CM Punk is set to play a significant role in the brand’s premiere. Punk will be in Chicago for the big debut, but he was also featured on the September 17 episode of NXT on the USA Network to reveal his plans.
After witnessing Giulia’s in-ring debut during the October 10 episode of NXT, CM Punk pitched an idea to WWE NXT General Manager Ava, which was promptly accepted. As a result, he was booked to appear on this week’s show at the NXT Arena.
According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, they were able to confirm Ibou of WrestlePurists’ report that CM Punk will be a special guest referee at NXT’s Chicago CW premiere. Punk is expected to make that announcement during tonight’s show.
Punk arrived at the Performance Center early in the day, and as with his previous visits, he was seen interacting with NXT talent who approached him before the event. Fans can expect him on this week’s show.
It remains unclear whether the “ref cam” concept, previously experimented with, will return for this match or if it has been shelved. Punk is anticipated to be ringside for a segment in the middle of tonight’s show, although it’s uncertain if he’ll participate in any backstage segments.
With NXT preparing for its transition to The CW, the brand continues stacking exciting shows for the weeks ahead. It’s an exhilarating time to be a pro wrestling fan, and the momentum doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.
