WWE made a few fascinating booking decisions in 2020 and one of the most interesting decisions was for Otis to win the Money in the Bank ladder match. With that said, he has now confirmed if WWE had plans for him after his win.

Otis winning the 2020 Money in the Bank ladder match came out of left field for many, but it was ultimately a Vince McMahon decision. Otis never got to cash in his briefcase as Otis had to put his Money In The Bank contract on the line at Hell in a Cell 2020 and lost to The Miz.

While speaking to Chris Van Vliet, Otis was directly asked whether WWE had plans for him after his win and if there was any specific plan for him to cash in the contract at a specific time.

Otis confirmed that WWE had no plans for him after he won Money in the Bank. The whole day felt unexpected, as they were unable to get up on the roof for a long time due to COVID restrictions. It was a day of sitting around, doing one thing at a time, and shooting it. They spent most of the time in their gear, with the crew chatting and making last-minute changes to enhance the spectacle. For example, Baron suggested throwing a plate into the mirror and getting it approved.

Eventually, Jim asked Otis if he was thinking about a King Kong moment. Otis was hesitant, especially since he hates heights and usually sticks to the second rope. But Jim insisted, and despite Otis’s discomfort, he climbed up. At the top, Jim told him to take off his shirt and roar like King Kong. Otis was reluctant but complied, despite being exhausted from sitting for 14 hours.

Otis admitted that holding the briefcase didn’t make him think about becoming a world champion. Instead, he focused on how to make the moment bigger than it was, despite the lack of crowd reaction. The absence of a live audience made it challenging to gauge the impact of the moment.

“I don’t think there was a plan. No, uh, I don’t, I don’t. It was kind of a shocker because the whole day was like, we couldn’t get up on the roof for the longest time because of the COVID stuff. It was like just sitting, sitting, sitting, doing one thing and shooting it, so we were basically just sitting there in our gear. They were kind of, you know, b******** with all the boys and, you know, kind of calling stuff that would make it even more spectacular, like the plate where, you know, Baron was like, ‘Oh, throw the plate in the mirror, get it approved,’ you know, ‘get it approved,’ you know. So it was just a long day.

Then finally Jim’s like, ‘You thinking King Kong up in there?’ I go, ‘King Kong?’ He goes, ‘Yeah, come with me.’ Jamie Noble’s all fired up; he walks up, and he’s just climbing this ladder with his cowboy boots. I’m like, ‘Babe, I’m not going up there; I hate heights. That’s why I only go on the second rope.’ He’s like, ‘Get your ass up here, come on.’ So, I went, and it was a long way down. I mean, it’s a headquarters, babe. So we go up there, and he goes, ‘Alright, take a—I’m going to take a picture of you. Take your shirt off and roar.’ I go, ‘Okay, like King Kong, really roar?’ I’m like, ‘Okay, I’m roaring.’ Sorry, I’ve been sitting for 14 hours, then all of a sudden you’re going to win it. I’m like, ‘Oh, okay.’ And then, yeah, from there. But I think everything was always like, again, it was who’s healthy, who’s not, so that could have been a factor there, you know, with testing about COVID and all that. So there were a bunch of changes going on.

[But at any point holding the briefcase, did you go, ‘I’m going to be a world champion, like this, this, that’s what this means; this means I probably get the title,’]

Yeah, my brain doesn’t think that way. It’s, um, how does it think? Basically, it’s a military question. It’s, uh, basically it’s like, how can I make this bigger than what it can be? And it’s tough without the crowd too because, again, you’re not getting that reaction.”

Many fans felt Otis deserved better than to have his Money in the Bank opportunity taken away like that from him. In fact, WWE changed his Money in the Bank storyline many times. Regardless, what’s done is done and it’s unlikely Otis will get to win the briefcase again anytime soon.
