Joe Tessitore made waves when he joined WWE, bringing his extensive experience from ESPN to the world of professional wrestling. While continuing his work with ESPN, Tessitore now calls the action on WWE RAW, and his debut on the September 2 WWE RAW has already garnered significant attention from fans and industry insiders alike.
Since stepping into the WWE commentary booth, Tessitore has been praised for his distinctive style and deep knowledge of the WWE product. His transition into the wrestling world has been smooth, with many recognizing how his sports commentary background has added a new dynamic to WWE programming.
In a recent interview with Awful Announcing, WWE’s Peter Rosenberg had nothing but high praise for Tessitore’s debut, calling it one of the best in recent memory.
“I thought Tess did great. It’s the best debut we’ve had in a long time, respectfully to the amazing Kevin Egan [Patrick], who is such an amazing sportscaster and doing such a great job broadcasting for Apple and MLS. He did a great job, Jimmy Smith did a good job. Other people have been there and have done well. Tess, he’s built for this. His style, he has a pro wrestling style. It’s built into him. It was built into him when he did boxing or when he did football, you can hear it right now when he does college football. He has a big voice, everything is big. He knows the product, he loves it. He knows how to run traffic, which is a really hard thing, it’s a lot to deal with when you’re on live TV like that. I’m as confident in the success of Joe Tessitore as I have been about anyone who’s come along, he’s gonna be good.”
WWE has a long tradition of great announcers on RAW, from the legendary duo of Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler to modern voices like Michael Cole and Mauro Ranallo. While it’s still early in Tessitore’s WWE journey, he’s already off to an impressive start, and fans are eager to see how he develops in this new role.
Tessitore is able to blend pro wrestling history with his commentary, so he’s done his research. Only time will tell if this will get even more eyes on the product as a legit sports program, but it isn’t hurting the company at all.
