Since leaving WWE after WrestleMania 39, Shane McMahon has kept a low profile in the wrestling world. However, recent rumors have sparked speculation about his potential involvement with AEW. Shane may have had a meeting with AEW CEO Tony Khan, fueling further intrigue. Vince Russo now believes that Shane might have been spying on AEW to assist his father, Vince McMahon, in starting a new wrestling company.

On July 29, 2024, Khan and McMahon held private meeting at an office in Arlington airport. This was their first direct discussion, despite Khan’s previous interest in connecting with McMahon. The meeting reportedly focused on exploring potential collaborative opportunities, which has led to rumors about McMahon’s possible future role in AEW.

While speaking on his YouTube channel, Vince Russo stated that he believes Shane McMahon, possibly with advice from his father Vince McMahon, might use the information he got from his meeting with Tony Khan to negotiate with Warner Brothers Discovery.

According to Vince Russo, the idea is that Shane McMahon could suggest starting a new wrestling company and use the insider information to make a strong offer to the network.

“I don’t think this is that far-fetched. What if, under the tutelage, guidance, and wisdom of his old man, Vincent Kennedy McMahon, Shane McMahon has a meeting with Tony Khan? The point of that meeting would be to gather information. So what if Shane McMahon finds out all about the TV deal, what they were paid, what they’re offering, the whole nine yards? What if, under the tutelage and guidance of VKM, Shane McMahon goes to Warner Bros. Discovery, knowing all the numbers and all the facts, and says, ‘Gentlemen, give us a year. In a year, we will have a viable wrestling company. It’s in the works right now. Dad’s behind it, and nobody will ever know I am the face and the front man.’ He would literally say, ‘Give us one year, and in one year you can have this show for X amount of dollars.'”

Shane McMahon’s close friend Pete Gas doesn’t rule out McMahon joining AEW. Regardless, we will have to wait and see what Shane McMahon will do in the end, as it’s likely many fans won’t agree with what Vince Russo had to say.
