Matt Riddle’s tenure with WWE was marked by numerous controversies and off-ring issues, which ultimately led to his unexpected release last year. Despite these difficulties, Riddle has shared that he had discussions with Tony Khan, and his status with AEW has now been revealed.

Since leaving WWE back in 2023, Riddle has been actively involved in various wrestling promotions, including Major League Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling, among others.

The King of Bros recently revealed that while he did have a conversation with Tony Khan, it didn’t go as well as he might have hoped. Riddle described the encounter as somewhat awkward, noting that he wasn’t sure if Tony Khan liked him. Although Khan appeared happy and Riddle had previously wrestled Zach Sabre Jr. in Chicago, Riddle’s attempt at humor didn’t land well. He felt Khan was confused by his sarcastic comment and decided to walk away from the conversation.

“I talked to Tony. I don’t know if he likes me. He seemed happy. I wrestled Zach Sabre Jr. in Chicago. He seemed cool about it. I don’t know. When you meet me, I’m very sarcastic. But when I met him, I was like, ‘Oh, you like that match’?

“But I said it a different way, and he looked at me all confused. And I was like, ‘Never mind, dude’. I just walked away. So that was my experience with that.”

According to Fightful Select, Tony Khan has shown no interest in signing Matt Riddle to AEW in recent years. The report also mentioned that most of the All Elite Wrestling talent rarely works with Riddle on the independent scene, except occasionally in Mexico.

”Behind the scenes, Tony Khan has not had any interest in bringing Matt Riddle to AEW, especially over the last number of years.”

The report further noted that Riddle is expected to make an appearance in TNA Wrestling, as he recently confirmed talks with the promotion. While Riddle has competed in major promotions like Major League Wrestling and New Japan Pro-Wrestling, he has yet to secure a long-term contract with any organization.

On the other hand, Matt Riddle also believes that he has a high chance of returning to WWE. Therefore, it appears that fans shouldn’t hope to see Matt Riddle in AEW anytime soon, as it’s simply unlikely to happen now.
