Roman Reigns is a beloved babyface today, but it’s easy to forget the years when that idea was fiercely rejected by the WWE fanbase. From 2014 to 2020, WWE pushed Reigns as the face of the company, but many fans felt he wasn’t ready for that role, especially following the break-up of The Shield.

Speaking at a K&S WrestleFest virtual signing, multi-time former WWE Champion Kurt Angle named Reigns as his ideal opponent on the current roster. He also shared his perspective on Reigns’ long and challenging journey to becoming the top star in WWE.

Angle said that Roman Reigns’ initial push in WWE may have come on too strong and too fast for the Original Tribal Chief. That push was met with backlash from fans, and they didn’t want to accept it. Eventually, they found themselves acknowledging the Head of the Table.

“Roman Reigns. I’m not gonna lie to you, the kid’s been on fire. I will say this – he earned every bit that he’s gotten.”

“I do believe the company pushed him a little too early and the fans didn’t wanna accept that, but he’s followed through. He’s proven that he’s one of the best in the world right now.”

During the signing, Kurt Angle was also asked for his thoughts on Roman Reigns’ current WWE rival, Jacob Fatu. The Olympic gold medalist praised Fatu and the entire Bloodline. Of course, Angle has a lot of experience working with Fatu’s family.

“Yeah, he’s doing really well too. All those guys [are] extremely talented. They all come from the same family, the same Samoan background, but yeah, they’re all extremely good.”

“They’ve always been. You look at Rikishi and the ones in the past. They have a great reputation of being great workers.”

On October 5, Roman Reigns will team up with Cody Rhodes to take on Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu at WWE Bad Blood. It will be interesting to see how those two will be able to coexist, especially since they were at odds running into their WrestleMania 40 main event program.

Tickets are going fast to WWE Bad Blood in Atlanta’s State Farm Arena, and you can get information about tickets here.
