CM Punk has ventured beyond pro wrestling and into acting, with one of his standout roles being Ricky Rabies in the wrestling series “Heels,” where he starred alongside Stephen Amell and Alexander Ludwig.
During a recent appearance on the “Insight with Chris Van Vliet” podcast, Stephen Amell shared how Punk ended up being cast in the show, revealing that Punk wasn’t originally slated for the role.
Amell explained that they had initially shot scenes with a different actor, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the original performer had to step out. This led to Punk stepping into the role of Ricky Rabies. Amell praised Punk’s acting ability and his work ethic on set.
“Punk was great to work with, and I stand by my match with him. It was a lot of fun, and if that’s five percent of the reason we got him back in the business, I’m good with that.”
Amell also highlighted Punk’s no-nonsense attitude, mentioning that Punk “doesn’t take s*** from anyone” and expressed regret that he couldn’t attend Punk’s return to pro wrestling at AEW Rampage: The First Dance.
Although “Heels” was cancelled in 2023, the two filmed seasons will start airing on Netflix beginning Sunday, September 15. There’s hope that, depending on how well the show performs on Netflix, it could potentially be picked up for a third season, a possibility that former showrunner Mike O’Malley believes could happen.
