Dominik Mysterio has been a top in-ring competitor for more than four years, really standing out as a full-blown heel. Recently, his character has drawn big comparisons to AEW’s MJF as well.
While Dominik Mysterio has yet to reach the level of success or in-ring prowess that MJF has achieved, there is no denying the fact that Dominik Mysterio has truly come into his own as a heel on WWE television.
While speaking on his 83 Weeks podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff expressed his admiration for Dominik Mysterio, noting that when Dominik first appeared on WWE TV, Bischoff initially saw it as just an opportunity for Dominik to gain experience. However, he was quickly impressed by how Dominik capitalized on the opportunity and became an excellent heel. Bischoff compared Dominik to MJF, saying that just as MJF loves being a heel, so does Dominik. He even went as far as to say that Dominik is WWE’s answer to MJF when it comes to getting heat.
Bischoff emphasized that embracing the role of a heel is rare, as it goes against human nature, but Dominik has fully committed to the role. He praised Dominik for having no fear, not just in the ring, but in his character work. Even though Bischoff has never worked with him directly, he observed that Dominik seems fearless and is willing to do whatever it takes to make the character successful.
“I like that. Um, Dominik—my God. Like, I’ll be honest, when they first started pushing… I want to say pushing, but when I first saw Dom on WWE TV, I was like, ‘Well, at least he’s getting to experience an opportunity.’ Holy crap, he’s not only experiencing it, he’s so capitalizing on it. He’s so good as a heel. It’s like we were talking about MJF last week—you know, MJF, I think, loves being a heel. Some people do, very few people do, because it goes against human nature, and I think Dominik is WWE’s answer to MJF, especially when it comes to getting heat.
As I said last week, those who really embrace it, who love it, and bask in the glow of it—it’s awesome to see. And that’s Dom, man. He just loves being a heel. He has no fear, and I don’t mean just doing things in the ring, but as a character. He—apparently, I’ve never worked with him, obviously—but he just doesn’t appear to have any fear. He’s willing to do whatever he needs to do to get the character over.”
MJF himself isn’t a fan of the comparison between himself and Dominik Mysterio. Regardless, both are doing phenomenal work as heels and it’s inevitable the two will continue to be compared for a long time.
