Chris Jericho takes immense pride in his work with AEW and isn’t shy about expressing it. Known for his love of competing globally, it was no surprise as he made his in-ring return to CMLL after almost 30 years at their 91st Anniversary event.
On Friday, September 13, 2024, CMLL held a special edition of “Viernes Espectacular” celebrating its 91st Anniversary. The event took place at the iconic Arena Mexico in Mexico City. The main event featured a highly anticipated match as “Lionheart” Chris Jericho returned to CMLL after nearly 30 years to face Místico.
In an intense battle between the two legends, the match went to a third fall with the score tied 1-1. Místico secured the victory by trapping Jericho in the center of the ring with Tijeras before transitioning into La Mística to clinch the win. This was the first-ever encounter between Jericho and Místico, making the latter’s victory in CMLL’s biggest show even more significant. After the match, Big Bill attacked Místico, but Orange Cassidy came to his rescue.
Jericho has more to worry about following the event, as his Blue Bentley was vandalized with $7,000 worth of coins by The Conglomeration (Orange Cassidy, Mark Briscoe, and Kyle O’Reilly) on the September 11th episode of AEW Dynamite.
Jericho is set to face Orange Cassidy on the September 18th edition of AEW Dynamite. Meanwhile, Místico will compete against TMDK’s Bad Dude Tito in the Semifinals of MLW’s Opera Cup Tournament on September 14 in Atlanta, Georgia. Regardless, fans were just happy to see Jericho compete in CMLL again and that’s all that matters.
