AEW burst onto the scene over five years ago with a ton of hype around the company. They sold out a lot of venues, but it’s hard to ignore that some markets are tougher for them to sell tickets for than they used to be. It’s hard to ignore AEW’s struggles at this point, as WWE is experiencing a booming period in their company’s history. There is more proof of AEW having problems moving tickets, as they aren’t performing that well in the same building as they did a year ago.
In a surprising turn, AEW’s Collision event from 2023 may surpass the ticket sales of AEW Dynamite in 2024 at the same venue, the Maverik Center in West Valley City, UT. According to WrestleTix, with 39 days until the October 23, 2024 AEW Dynamite and Rampage taping, the event has distributed just 1,026 tickets, out of a current setup of 2,828. Available tickets stand at 1,802, with only a modest increase of 92 tickets sold over the past week.
This presents a stark contrast to AEW Collision’s performance at the same venue on October 7, 2023, where 2,245 tickets were distributed. With the current trend, it appears that Collision is on track to outsell Dynamite, potentially signaling a shift in fan interest or preference for the Collision brand.
While there is still time for ticket sales to increase as the event approaches, the comparison highlights a possible growing popularity of AEW Collision over AEW Dynamite in certain markets. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how sales evolve as the event date draws nearer.
Tony Khan is always booking big matches to boost attention. Only time will tell what he books for Utah, but that city may also have a very strong walk-up ticket sales to beat out last year’s Collision event. It’s also anyone’s guess how long it will be until AEW’s production team can show the seats on the hard camera side when they’re not on pay-per-view.
AEW is still in the depths of television contract talks with Warner Brothers Discovery. Tony Khan said that there is a 90% chance that something will be announced. They spoke once again in Paris during the 2024 Olympic Games, and those talks are still reportedly amicable, yet still ongoing.
