The pro wrestling world used to depend on pay-per-views for a majority of the money made on big events. That is not the way a lot of business is done now, but the number of buys from fans still provides a big indication of that show’s popularity.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported an interesting statistic regarding pay-per-view buys for one of the largest television providers in the country, which has a heavily rural audience. According to the report, TNA Hard to Kill 2024 in January did 11 fewer buys than AEW Revolution 2024 and easily outperformed every other AEW pay-per-view this year, as well as every WWE show except for the Royal Rumble, SummerSlam, and WrestleMania. AEW’s pay-per-view events reportedly perform poorly in rural areas compared to major markets.
On the same rural system, TNA Slammiversary 2024 was only slightly behind AEW Dynasty 2024 and is expected to outperform all WWE shows except the top three, as well as WWE Elimination Chamber and possibly Bash in Berlin. However, on major carriers in larger cities, AEW’s pay-per-views significantly outperform both TNA and WWE.
TNA Wrestling’s Slammiversary 2024 delivered an action-packed card for fans, featuring a total of 13 matches, including the kickoff show. The main event was a thrilling six-way elimination match for the TNA World Championship, where Nic Nemeth emerged victorious by defeating reigning champion Moose, along with Josh Alexander, Steve Maclin, Frankie Kazarian, and Joe Hendry. This high-stakes match capped off an intense night of wrestling, showcasing TNA’s top talent in a memorable event.
The fact that WWE’s NXT brand is giving TNA Wrestling an extra boost of recognition thanks to their ongoing partnership is certainly helping matters for them. TNA stars have become regular faces on NXT, with Hammerstone making his debut for the brand during the September 10 WWE NXT, adding another name to the growing list of talent who have crossed over.
We will keep an eye on this story and so many more in the pro wrestling world. You never know what will break next, but we will be here with all the headlines you need.
