Since his departure from WWE after WrestleMania 39, Shane McMahon has remained away from the wrestling spotlight. However, recent rumors have stirred speculation about his potential involvement with AEW, especially following a rumored meeting with AEW CEO Tony Khan. Pete Gas, a close friend of Shane, addressed these rumors as well.
On July 29, 2024, Khan and McMahon held private meeting at an office in Arlington airport. This was their first direct discussion, despite Khan’s previous interest in connecting with McMahon. The meeting reportedly focused on exploring potential collaborative opportunities, which has led to rumors about McMahon’s possible future role in AEW.
Pete Gas, a former member of the Mean Street Posse and longtime friend of Shane McMahon, talked about the possibility of Shane joining AEW during an appearance on AdFreeShows.
When asked about the idea, Pete responded by saying, “never say never.” He explained that Shane McMahon is known for keeping things secret and embracing kayfabe, meaning he doesn’t reveal anything he doesn’t want to. Pete also mentioned how the recent rumors of Shane meeting with Tony Khan piqued fans’ interest, but he emphasized that with Shane, anything is possible and it’s hard to predict his next move.
“Never say never. That’s the only thing I can say. I don’t know. The history behind Shane, and everyone, Shane loves to kayfabe. Shane is not going to let anything out that he doesn’t want out. It’s funny because they teased that whole thing with him meeting with Khan. It piques people’s interest. You never say never with Shane. He lives for that moment. The whole thing when he came back (to WWE), everything is kayfabe with him. It’s always been kayfabe. That’s how he lives. You never say never.”
Many AEW talent also expected Shane McMahon to debut during the All In pay-per-view last month. Internally, WWE also expects Shane McMahon to appear on AEW programming at least once. Nonetheless, we will have to wait and see whether Shane McMahon will end up debuting on AEW television eventually, as fans would love to see that happen.
