WWE has seen several big names leave the company for Hollywood’s bright lights and lucrative contracts. While Kevin Owens hasn’t ventured into acting yet, Stephen Amell is confident that Owens has what it takes to succeed on the big screen.
Kevin Owens isn’t the only WWE Superstar catching Amell’s eye. The Arrow star believes there are several wrestlers who could thrive in Hollywood. Interesting enough, he didn’t name Roman Reigns, someone he admits he never got along with.
Over the years, many wrestling stars have transitioned to the silver screen, with A-listers like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Batista, and John Cena finding great success after their wrestling careers. The door between WWE and Hollywood seems more open than ever, because Vince McMahon’s previous edict about his talent acting in outside ventures has gone to the wayside in Endeavor’s era.
During a recent appearance on The Masked Man Show, Stephen Amell, star of Arrow and Heels, was asked to name wrestlers he believes could make it in Hollywood.
“I think the guy that might have chops is Kevin Owens. If you’ve ever met Kevin, he’s the most super soft spoken, kind, polite — and then he comes out and [its just] fire when he’s in the ring.”
Stephen Amell also mentioned Gunther and Dominik Mysterio as other potential Hollywood stars. We will have to see if any of them take a stab at acting, but they are certainly needed in WWE right now.
Although Stephen Amell has a successful acting career, he’s no stranger to the ring himself. He has competed in three notable wrestling matches, starting with his WWE debut at SummerSlam on August 23, 2015, where he teamed up with Neville to face King Barrett and Stardust. He later wrestled at Ring of Honor’s Survival of the Fittest on November 17, 2017, joining Bullet Club members to secure a victory. His third match was at the ALL IN event on September 1, 2018, where he faced Christopher Daniels in what was billed as “The Biggest Independent Wrestling Show Ever.”
There have been other plans for Amell’s in-ring career, like a cage match with Cody Rhodes. In fact, he recently stated that Cody Rhodes told him he’s one WWE match away from a WWE Hall of Fame induction.
Whether Kevin Owens will ever take the leap into acting remains to be seen, but he has certainly displayed his acting skills in WWE. While it’s uncertain if Owens will make the jump to Hollywood, it’s clear that he’s comfortable staying in WWE for now.
