The Motor City Machine Guns, one of the most celebrated tag teams in pro wrestling, made headlines earlier this year after leaving TNA. The duo of Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley have reportedly been in talks with both AEW and WWE, with some clarity on their next wrestling endeavour.
It was reported that AEW President Tony Khan had shown interest in bringing the duo to AEW, but negotiations with the promotion eventually fell through. The reasons behind the breakdown in negotiations remain unclear, although some sources suggest that WWE made a more enticing offer.
According to a new update by Fightful Select, further clarity was provided on the subject, confirming that the Motor City Machine Guns have officially signed with WWE, as they confirmed with some reliable WWE sources tonight.
This news comes after months of rumours and speculation, with AEW sources indicating earlier that the team of Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley was not part of their plans. While creative pitches were made to bring them to AEW, the deal ultimately did not materialize.
“We finally have some clarity on Motor City Machine Guns. Earlier this week, Pro Wrestling Nexus had reported that Motor City Machine Guns’ Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin were headed to WWE. Tonight, WWE sources have claimed to Fightful that the duo are officially signed. Questions have swirled about their status’ for months, but details were few and far between, outside of AEW sources indicating months ago that the duo hadn’t been signed and weren’t planned for the company. There were some creative pitches there, but they didn’t end up happening.”
With their WWE debut now seemingly on the horizon, fans are eagerly awaiting how Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley will be integrated into the company and how they will fare under the WWE banner.
