WWE has their eye on the entire pro wrestling world, and they are giving NXT a special focus with their move to The CW. Now, a top indie tag team is reportedly set to land on the black and gold brand.
It was previously reported that the Motor City Machine Guns were expected to sign with WWE after their TNA deals expired. However, there have been no updates regarding their status since that report.
PW Nexus has now reported that the Motor City Machine Guns are headed to NXT. According to the report, their debut could happen as soon as the CW Network premiere, adding significant buzz to the event.
NXT is set to debut on The CW on October 1 in Chicago. CM Punk is already going to be there, and odds are several main roster Superstars will be present. If they add in Motor City Machine Guns’ NXT debut, then that could be a huge night for the brand.
Formed in 2007, the Motor City Machine Guns have made a lasting impact in various promotions, including Ring of Honor, New Japan Pro-Wrestling, and Impact Wrestling. They are three-time TNA Tag Team Champions, and both Shelley and Sabin have also held the TNA World and X-Division Titles individually.
Sabin has never competed in WWE, while Shelley had a brief stint in NXT in 2020. He wrestled three matches, including two at house shows and one on NXT TV as part of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. Shelley and Kushida, former partners in NJPW, were eliminated in the first round of the tournament.
With their vast experience and accomplishments, the arrival of the Motor City Machine Guns could bring a new dynamic to WWE’s tag team division, and fans will be eager to see how they fit into the NXT landscape.
