AEW and Warner Bros Discovery have yet to officially announce a new television contract, but fans are eagerly awaiting the news. It seems that the deal might be nearing completion, though a recent report has caused some uncertainty regarding just how close the agreement is to being finalized.
Earlier today, it was reported that AEW and WBD’s deal is done. The deal is said to include a pay-per-view element and potentially involve MAX, which got fans excited as they started thinking about what to plan for.
However, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported that the story about the deal being finalized might have been exaggerated. According to his sources, negotiations are still ongoing, although both sides are on good terms.
“Regarding word today that the AEW/WBD deal is ‘done,’ our last update from WBD on Saturday said that talks were ‘ongoing and amicable,’ and another source noted that the deal had been in AEW’s hands to review and sign.”
AEW and WBD have moved past their exclusive negotiating window for the deal. While an official announcement is still pending, it remains to be seen how different the final agreement will be. Fans are left waiting for confirmation.
Following AEW All Out, Tony Khan stated that he was “90%” sure a new WBD television deal would be announced within the next month, though he gave himself a 10% margin of error. This development has fans speculating about the future of AEW’s pay-per-views, wondering if they’ll continue paying for them on a monthly basis or if MAX might offer an alternative.
