Matt Riddle’s time with WWE was marred by several controversies and off-ring issues, leading to his unexpected release last year. After he publicly announced his relationship with Misha Montana, Montana received death threats.
Before leaving WWE, Matt Riddle was involved in several controversies, one of which arose after he made his relationship with Misha Montana public. In late 2022, Riddle shared that he was dating Montana, and by July 2023, they announced they were expecting a child. Their son, Matthew Riddle Montana, was born in December of that year.
In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Riddle reflected on his desire to be open about his personal life. He explained that he didn’t want to hide his relationship, as he wanted to avoid creating insecurity for Montana. However, this decision led to backlash, with some people sending her threats and blaming her for negatively impacting his career. Riddle expressed his frustration with the situation, emphasizing how unacceptable he found the hostility directed at his girlfriend.
“I’m 38 years old. I’m not trying to fake anything or hide anything. Like I don’t want to hide a relationship and have my girlfriend be all insecure because I won’t post her. I just want her to be happy. She makes me happy. Unfortunately, I felt like at times that would upset them or other people. My girlfriend would get death threats and stuff saying that she ruined my life. I just don’t find that acceptable.”
It is certainly unfortunate that Matt Riddle had to deal with such hardship after going public with his relationship with Misha Montana. Nonetheless, Riddle has clearly moved on from the situation and is focusing on other things in his life and that’s all that matters right now, especially as he feels that chances for his WWE return are high.
