Darby Allin, renowned for his toughness and ability to withstand extreme punishment, has long been a fan favorite in AEW. Many fans have speculated whether the company would eventually elevate him to AEW World Champion. Recent rumors have added fuel to this speculation, and now it has been revealed that plans for Allin’s AEW World Title win were actually in place but have since been scrapped.

Darby Allin was initially set to challenge for the AEW World Championship during the September 25th Grand Slam episode of Dynamite at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York, which made fans wonder if he would win the title.

Recent rumors have circulated that Darby Allin’s potential AEW World Championship win had been “strongly discussed” within the company, with the possibility of him ending Bryan Danielson’s full-time wrestling career. According to an update from Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, this was more than just a conversation—it was actually part of the plan. Allin was set to defeat Bryan Danielson for the AEW World Championship, marking the conclusion of Danielson’s full-time in-ring career.

Meltzer explained that the match would have taken place at AEW WrestleDream in Tacoma, with Allin potentially defeating Jon Moxley to secure the title match against Danielson. Allin, a hometown favorite from the Seattle area, was originally slated to win, but the current focus seems to have shifted toward a “money match” involving Moxley instead.

“The winner between Moxley and Darby is going to wrestle Danielson for the title in Tacoma [WrestleDream]. Darby was at one point winning that match and he’s from the area essentially. Seattle. However, the money match right now is very clearly Moxley,” Meltzer said.

The original plan for Danielson vs. Allin at Dynamite Grand Slam, scheduled for September 25 at Arthur Ashe Stadium, has been changed. Instead of facing Danielson for the title, Allin will defend his AEW World Title shot against Jon Moxley at Grand Slam, while Danielson is now booked to wrestle Nigel McGuinness in a non-title bout so we will have to wait and see how Allin will fare against Moxley.
