WWE is gearing up for a highly anticipated debut on The CW on October 1, and the main event of the September 10 episode of NXT set the stage in a big way. Trick Williams and Pete Dunne went head-to-head in a last man standing match, delivering a brutal contest to close out WWE’s action-packed week on the USA Network.

This showdown was not just any match—it was a high-stakes battle for the opportunity to face Ethan Page in Chicago. Both men were determined to win, and it showed in their relentless fight. Pete Dunne, entering the match with a bruised and battered face from his involvement in the IC Title #1 contender’s match on WWE RAW, was ready for another war. In that match, Jey Uso triumphed over Braun Strowman, Ilja Dragunov, and Dunne.

The physicality of the match was intense, with Pete Dunne removing the protective padding around the ring as the referee counted Trick Williams down. Dunne attempted a piledriver on the exposed concrete, but Williams reversed it, only for Dunne to later hit a DDT on the hard surface. Despite this, Trick managed to get back to his feet just before the count of 10.

Trick refused to stay down, launching a comeback against Dunne. However, Dunne remained one step ahead, hitting Williams with a Bitter End that seemed to seal the match. But Williams got back up again. Dunne then grabbed a chair, but Trick countered by kicking the chair into Dunne’s head.

As the match progressed, Trick landed a Trick Shot, but Dunne, relentless as ever, got to his feet in time. Williams cleared off the announce table, but Dunne powerbombed him through the table cover. Both competitors continued to fight, taking the battle into the crowd. They ended up on a platform, where Dunne attempted a suplex, but instead, both men fell through a table. Trick was the first to rise, securing the victory despite Ethan Page’s interference. Page tried to stop Trick, but instead received a back body drop onto the announce table.

Now, Trick Williams will face Ethan Page for the NXT Title on October 1, which promises to be an explosive start to NXT’s run on The CW.
