Jey Uso has been delivering impressive performances as a babyface on Monday Night RAW recently. However, despite his strong showings, he has struggled to secure victories in significant matches. This situation has led Rikishi to publicly criticize WWE for how they have been handling Jey’s booking. Additionally, there were plans to have Jey Uso win a championship that have since been scrapped.

Although he’s delivered impressive performances, he has yet to capture a singles title. His participation in the Men’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match didn’t see him pick up the win, but Jey Uso continues to be a prominent and influential presence on Monday Night Raw.

Gunther’s impressive 666-day reign as WWE Intercontinental Champion ended at WrestleMania when Sami Zayn defeated him to claim the title. However, the original plans for the championship match at WrestleMania might have been quite different.

Earlier this year, Gunther defended his title against Jey Uso on RAW in March. Gunther won the match with help from Jimmy Uso, setting up their clash at WrestleMania 40. According to former WWE host Matt Camp on The Wrestling Matt, there were initial plans for Jey Uso to challenge Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania.

Camp revealed that Jey’s potential victory over Gunther and a subsequent match against Jimmy Uso for the title at WrestleMania were also considered. This idea was discussed between the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania but eventually shifted to the RAW match.

“There were plans at the beginning of the year for Jey and GUNTHER for the IC Title – they ended up doing it on Raw, but that was in play as a potential WrestleMania match.

“That was in play between Royal Rumble and WrestleMania which I know it eventually happened. That was in play.

“How about this – Jey beating GUNTHER was in play for the IC Title before WrestleMania, with the idea of doing Jimmy/Jey for the IC Title at WrestleMania. I know that was talked about.”

Rikishi also believes Jey Uso could go to AEW due to all the booking concerns. Nonetheless, we will have to wait and see if Jey Uso will become a singles champion this year, as fans feel he more than deserves it.
