WWE’s Saturday Night’s Main Event, which originally aired on NBC and replaced Saturday Night Live 29 times during its original run, was revived on FOX in 2006 and 2008. There are now indications that the event might be making a return, creating excitement among fans.
As previously reported, WWE is set to announce a prime-time special on NBC, potentially scheduled for a Saturday night in December. Under WWE’s new agreement to bring SmackDown back to the USA Network, the deal includes four prime-time specials per year on NBC. WWE had hinted that the return of Saturday Night’s Main Event will be announced soon.
On September 9, 2024, WWE filed a new trademark application for the term “SATURDAY NIGHT’S MAIN EVENT” with the United States Patent & Trademark Office, under Serial Number 98741576.
This filing covers a range of clothing items, including tops, shirts, jackets, sweatshirts, hoodies, pants, shorts, underwear, dresses, pajamas, and more, as well as Halloween costumes, footwear, headwear, wrist bands, and bandanas.
”Clothing, namely, tops, shirts, jackets, sweatshirts, hoodies; outerwear, namely, coats; bottoms, pants, shorts, underwear, dresses, pajamas, lingerie, clothing ties, scarves, gloves, swimwear; Halloween and masquerade costumes; footwear, namely, shoes, sneakers, slippers, flip flops, boots; headwear, namely, hats, caps; wrist bands as clothing; bandanas.”
WWE also holds a previous trademark for “SATURDAY NIGHT’S MAIN EVENT” from September 2018. This earlier filing covered entertainment services related to professional wrestling, including live events, broadcast media, wrestling news, online information, fan club services, and online content.
”Entertainment services, namely, a show about professional wrestling; entertainment services, namely, the production and exhibition of professional wrestling events rendered live and through broadcast media including television and radio, and via the internet or commercial online service; providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment via an online community portal; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment information; fan club services, namely, organizing and staging sporting events in the field of wrestling for wrestling fan club members; providing online newsletters in the field of sports entertainment; online journals, namely, blogs in the fields of sports entertainment.”
Saturday Night’s Main Event was key in launching the Rock and Wrestling Connection, which helped Vince McMahon expand WWE nationwide. Given its important role in WWE’s history and brand, it’s no surprise that the company is planning to bring it back. Fans can look forward to an announcement about the show’s return soon.
