Swerve Strickland proved he is willing to push the limits during AEW All Out this week during the steel cage match. However, AEW faced criticism for one particularly dangerous spot in the match.
At AEW All Out, Swerve Strickland and Adam Page faced off in a brutal Lights Out Steel Cage match that kicked off with intensity before the cage was fully lowered. Prince Nana threw a table into the ring, and Strickland used the cage to assault Page. Both wrestlers quickly introduced various weapons into the fray, including a staple gun. Page used it until Strickland took control, even stapling a picture of Page’s family to his chest.
The match was a violent showcase, with both men bleeding and enduring severe punishment. Strickland sent Page crashing through a table, but Page retaliated with a powerful Dead Eye. The action reached a peak when Page executed a powerbomb onto a cinder block, causing Strickland to land directly on it.
Strickland continued the violence by stabbing Page in the head, but Page struck back by removing Strickland’s grill and using a needle on him. The match ended with Page delivering a chair shot that clinched his victory. Strickland was left seriously hurt and needed immediate medical attention.
Former WWE personality Jonathan Coachman took to Twitter and criticized AEW for the risky chair spot during the Swerve Strickland vs. Adam Page match at AEW All Out. He expressed frustration, labeling the move as reckless and unnecessary. Coachman emphasized that such dangerous spots put wrestlers’ long-term health at risk and urged AEW, particularly Tony Khan, to prioritize the safety of their performers over trying to attract attention or boost viewership.
”DUMB DUMB DUMB DUMB. Have we learned nothing the last 20 years. Someone needs to talk to Swerve and let him know that this is unnecessary. So many spots last night that screamed “watch me please” “we do crazy sh**”. Just so unnecessary to put your long term health in danger. I don’t care if you are trying to score a tv deal, or increase viewership. Damn Tony Khan protect your people from themselves.”
We have also reported that Swerve Strickland will be taking hiatus after AEW All Out and that people backstage in AEW were freaking out due to the match. Regardless, many fans will always call out AEW over such spots and that’s unlikely to change anytime soon.
