Rhea Ripley’s status as a top WWE Superstar is clear, and her popularity keeps growing. However, she’s also faced criticism, particularly regarding a viral stinkface spot. Ripley has addressed this by calling out what she sees as double standards in the criticism she got.
Earlier this year. Rhea Ripley faced off against Nia Jax during a WWE live event that sparked nostalgia among fans. In a playful tribute to Bloodline member Rikishi, Ripley incorporated one of his signature moves into the bout. To the audience’s delight, Ripley delivered stinkface to Nia Jax, adding cheeky touch to the match.
However, not everyone was happy about this spot, as the likes of Becky Lynch believe such spots sent a negative message to young girls. However, others had positive reaction to the spot as well.
While speaking to Ring the Belle, Rhea Ripley was asked about the viral stinkface spot and the criticism she received for it. Rhea Ripley called out the double standards in professional wrestling after receiving criticism for her viral Stinkface spot.
Ripley pointed out that when men do similar moves, they often get praised, while she faced backlash. Ripley noted how men are celebrated for these actions, while women like her receive criticism, showing a difference in how male and female wrestlers are judged. She even pointed out how when Tiffany Stratton did something similar she was praised, so Ripley concluded by saying people are simply mad that she is popular.
“Shut up, shut up. Honestly, it’s really funny because I get criticism for every single little thing that I do. But you see the men doing this, and you’re like, ‘Yeah, that looks cool, amazing.’ Tiffany Stratton did this the other week, and people were like, ‘Oh my God, I love you, Tiff! Oh my God, you’re so sexy, please do that to me.’ But when I do it, there’s a problem. You’re just mad that I’m popular, that’s why.”
Even Shayna Baszler begged Rhea Ripley to give her stinkface during a WWE live event. Nevertheless, the spot ended up becoming a topics point of discussion for many and Ripley will always have mixed feelings about it now.
