Mike Rome is the voice of WWE NXT as he calls Superstars names in the ring before each match. He has been notably absent from television over the past few weeks. With Alicia Taylor stepping in during NXT’s final episodes on the USA Network and the No Mercy event, fans began to wonder where Rome had gone.
The reason for his absence has now been revealed, and it’s a joyful one, as Mike Rome was busy welcoming his first child into the world. Since joining WWE in 2016, Rome has been a staple across Raw, SmackDown, and NXT as an announcer, and this week, he shared a monumental update from his personal life, because he’s officially a dad!
Mike Rome took to Facebook to announce the birth of his son, Salem James Romero, who arrived on Thursday, weighing in at 7 pounds, 7 ounces. In the heartfelt post, Rome shared a photo of himself with Salem, proudly revealing that he already has his son’s name tattooed on his hand. Describing Salem as “20 and a half inches of awesome,” Rome beamed with excitement as he introduced his newborn to the world.

Rome’s absence from WWE NXT has been filled by Alicia Taylor, who has been taking over announcing duties in his stead. In May 2024, Rome transitioned back to NXT from SmackDown in order to be closer to his home in Orlando, Florida, but for now, fans can expect to hear Taylor’s voice every Friday night on SmackDown.
As Rome embraces fatherhood, he’s not the only one in the wrestling world with exciting news. We will have to see how much time he gets off from WWE, but the company is in a place where Triple H is granting a lot more vacation time for family obligations.
