Goldberg’s contributions to the pro wrestling world do not need any introduction as he achieved a great deal of success in the business. However, he is also a controversial name and has a reputation for being reckless in the ring and now he has been accused of deliberately hurting a former WWE writer after they suffered a concussion.

On September 25, 2000, Vince Russo competed against Booker T in a Caged Heat match on Nitro. The match ended dramatically when Goldberg speared Russo through the cage, allowing Russo to escape first and win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship from Booker T.

In a recent interview on Rewind Recap Relive, Russo shared that former WCW star Konnan had warned him that he might get hurt that night. Vince Russo accused Goldberg of intentionally trying to injure him during their match. Russo claims that Goldberg informed Konnan beforehand that he planned to “f him up.”

Russo, who was already concussed and wearing a football helmet for protection, had specifically requested to be kept away from the barricades. Despite this, Goldberg drove Russo headfirst into the barricades, resulting in a severe concussion. Russo believes this was a deliberate act by Goldberg. This incident marked the end of Russo’s wrestling career in WCW, as he never returned to the ring after the match.

“Prior to that incident, Bill Goldberg told Konnan, ‘I am going to f him up,’ and Konnan will tell you that himself. And, bro, one thing about Konnan is you talk about straight shooters—Konnan doesn’t lie, and Konnan’s not afraid to say anything. I was concussed, bro, that’s why I had on the football helmet and all that crap. There was the entrance way and the way the cage was lined up—Goldberg was supposed to spear me through the cage right down into the entrance way. I said a million times, ‘Bro, keep me away from the barricades. I’m concussed. You’ve got to lay me in between, keep me away from the barricades.’ So when I look at what he told Konnan before the match and then see him driving me headfirst directly into the barricade, bro, what am I supposed to think? Yeah, like come on, bro, let’s be real and honest. He meant to do that. He did it. That was the last concussion I ever had in WCW, and I never got in the ring again after that. I was done.”

Bret Hart already has deep-rooted hatred for Goldberg for ending his career with a concussion. Regardless, Goldberg will always have a reputation for bad an unsafe worker and that’s never changing.
