Rob Van Dam, recognized as one of the most technically skilled pro wrestlers, has always been wrapped up in controversy from time to time. With that said, he claimed he was misrepresented in the ”Plane Ride from Hell” episode of Dark Side of the Ring.

Back in 2021, Dark Side of the Ring aired a very big episode on Vice as they blew the lid off the Plane Ride From Hell. RVD found himself in the spotlight when some fans believed he admitted to witnessing Ric Flair force a flight attendant to touch his exposed private parts.

While speaking on his 1 of A Kind podcast, RVD said he felt misrepresented in the Plane Ride from Hell episode of Dark Side of the Ring. He explained that during the interview, he was coached to say things that made it seem like he saw Ric Flair trying to make a woman touch him inappropriately, but that’s not what he actually saw.

RVD clarified that he didn’t see Flair exposing himself or forcing the woman to touch him, as the episode suggested. Instead, Flair was standing too close to her, making it hard for her to avoid touching him, but RVD wasn’t sure if she was uncomfortable or just playing along. He admitted that while he agreed to say what they asked, it wasn’t exactly what he meant, and the way it was edited made things look worse than what really happened.

“You live and you learn, you know? Like when I did that Dark Side of the Ring, the Plane Ride from Hell episode, I had no idea they were gonna edit it to make it appear as if I said I saw Ric trying to make a girl touch his d***. Like, if you watch it, that’s the way it comes across, and that’s not what I meant.

I didn’t see that. I didn’t say that I saw that, and I was coaxed or coached into those words, which I didn’t realize at the time. I didn’t have a problem with it because it also described what I did see, which wasn’t nearly that bad. So, I was just saying, you know, he was all up on her, crowding her space, like trying to make her touch him. She couldn’t get around him without having to touch him. Was he trying to make her touch him? Well, I mean, she would have had to, you know? But they said, ‘Can you say, “I saw him trying to make her touch it”?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, he was trying to make her touch him.’

Boom. First time ever told. Wow, how about that? I’ve never told that to anybody, man. Because you know why? I’m still responsible for what came out of my mouth, so I don’t want to blame them for me being a puppet, stupid enough to say their words. But it also fit my words. I was like, ‘Yeah, he was trying to make her touch him.’ She’s backed up against the wall, and he’s crowding her, but I couldn’t tell if she was enjoying it, playing, or what. I definitely didn’t see his d*** in the equation. The Nature Boy… no idea they were gonna put that in there like they did.”

The episode led to Ric Flair getting cancelled for a while and even Tommy Dreamer was indefinitely suspended from TNA Wrestling. Regardless, RVD’s words might shock some fans but RVD felt he had to set the record straight on how he was represented in the show.
