Giovanni Vinci Breaks Silence on 9/6 WWE SmackDown Squash Match Loss

Giovanni Vinci’s big return to singles competition didn’t go as planned, and he’s clearly not happy with how things unfolded. This led him to cut quite a backstage promo in Canada this week.

Vinci made his comeback during the September 6 episode of WWE SmackDown in Edmonton. Just as he was preparing for the match, barely getting his gear off, the bell rang, and Apollo Crews immediately took control.

Crews secured a lightning-fast pinfall, ending the match almost as quickly as it began. Vinci’s reaction after the loss made it clear he wasn’t pleased with how things went down.

“I got a question for you: When is the last time that a match has started before the referee asked both competitors if they’re ready? Yeah, I hadn’t seen it either. He comes from behind to roll me up — clearly I had my entrance gear on! He wants to play that way? We’ll play that way.”

Vinci also made it known that he intends to face Apollo Crews again, and next time he’ll be fully prepared. This wasn’t the comeback he envisioned by any means.

Vinci had been part of Imperium before being kicked out of the faction. After spending a few weeks uncertain about his next move, he was given his NXT persona on the main roster. How this losing streak will play out remains to be seen, but it’s certainly an unconventional approach to his return.
