Baron Corbin has been an integral part of WWE for a decade, seizing every opportunity that came his way. He has seen success and failure in the company and has now admitted that he was in a dark place after his partnership with JBL ended.

After initially finding success as a hated villain, Baron Corbin’s character was revamped into “Happy Corbin,” which only increased the fan backlash. He eventually disappeared from WWE for a while but later returned as Baron Corbin with JBL as his manager.

However, JBL abandoned Baron Corbin on RAW, and the WWE Hall of Famer has not worked with any WWE Superstar after the failed main roster run. In fact, Triple H abandoned the Corbin storyline altogether.

While speaking to WrestleManiac UK, Baron Corbin shared his disappointment with the failure of his “Modern Day Wrestling God” gimmick alongside JBL. Corbin admitted that the character didn’t connect with the audience the way he had hoped, and it put him in a difficult mental and emotional state.

Corbin felt burned out both mentally and physically toward the end of his main roster run before moving to NXT. Corbin expressed his respect for JBL, saying the failure of their partnership was especially tough for him as he was in a dark place. Despite the setback, it eventually led to his recent run in NXT.

”When I was kind of finishing my time up there on the main roster before NXT, like, I was stuck man. Mentally I was burnt out, physically I was burnt out. You know the stuff with JBL just didn’t work for some reason, it didn’t resonate with the audience like I saw it. I still think it could have been so successful. So, that really hurt, because I think the world of John and it really kind of put me in a dark place in a sense.”

Corbin would end up having a solid run in NXT and he is now back on the main roster and teaming up with Apollo Crews. We’ll have to see how he will be booked in the coming weeks, as Corbin intends to end his wrestling career in NXT.
