Sgt. Slaughter is a WWE Hall of Famer and one of the most respected Superstars in the history of the company. While he is respected, there are still quite a few people who don’t think he deserves all the praise. With that said, WWE gave his family 24/7 security after they received real-life threats.

Sgt. Slaughter, real name Rob Remus, played the role of an American hero for years before being rebranded as an Iraqi sympathizer in a controversial 1990 storyline. The WWE Hall of Famer teamed up with another pro-Iraq character, General Adnan, and had a memorable feud with Hulk Hogan over the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 7.

While speaking on the Something to Wrestle podcast, Bruce Prichard revealed that WWE provided round-the-clock security for Slaughter’s family due to the threats they received during this time.

“Think of his family. Look, his family, we had to have 24-hour security at his home for his family, for his wife and daughter, because there were people that were making threats against his family and against his home. That was real life and those were things that were actually happening. We had security with him 24 hours a day, for him and Adnan.”

Slaughter’s character openly supported Iraq at the height of the Gulf War when Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait. He even claimed to have received a pair of boots from Hussein as a gift, so it’s not really hard to see why he would get threats in the first place. Thankfully, WWE ensured nothing would happen to his family and that’s all that matters in the end.
