AEW star Powerhouse Hobbs has been out of action since April after suffering a patellar tendon tear during a match against Jon Moxley. According to a recent report, Hobbs was recently seen backstage during the September 4th episode of AEW Dynamite, sparking some hope for his return.
During a media call ahead of AEW All Out, AEW President and CEO Tony Khan provided an update on Hobbs’ condition when asked by Chris Mueller of Bleacher Report. Khan revealed that Hobbs has been making regular visits to his doctors and is steadily recovering, though there is no confirmed return date as of yet.
Furthermore, Tony Khan noted Hobbs has been an essential part of AEW and expressed excitement about integrating him back into future plans once his recovery is complete. Hobbs has also been seen backstage recently, which Khan mentioned as a positive sign of his ongoing recovery and progress.
“Will Hobbs has been visiting the doctors. He was injured wrestling against Jon Moxley in April. It’s been several months of Hobbs being out. We’re hoping to get him back soon, but I think there is still some time he needs for the recovery. Powerhouse Hobbs is a huge part of AEW and has been a great champion. We look forward to getting Will Hobbs back. I can’t say the exact date, but he’s somebody in our plans that we want to get going again soon. It’s been nice to see him backstage a couple of times lately. This wasn’t the first time we’ve seen him, which is a good thing that he keeps coming in for check ups and is making good progress.”
Despite his imposing strength and size, Powerhouse Hobbs was called out by fans for getting injured frequently. While Hobbs fired back right at them, he has yet to return to full-time in-ring action.
While there’s no exact timeline for Hobbs’ return, his presence backstage and progress in rehabilitation suggests that fans may not have to wait too long to see him back in the ring.
