Drew McIntyre has been on an impressive run for months, with his rivalry with CM Punk becoming a central storyline on WWE television. Many feel it all began last year and now McIntyre has now disclosed the reasons behind his dramatic exit from Survivor Series last year.

If you need a reminder, during Survivor Series last year, Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins, Jey Uso, Sami Zayn, and Randy Orton faced off against The Judgment Day and Drew McIntyre. Ultimately, Cody Rhodes’ team emerged victorious.

Reports noted that McIntyre was far from pleased with the outcome. He was visibly upset after the match concluded and reportedly stormed out of the arena and footage showed him storming out of the arena right after the match.

While speaking to Chris Van Vliet, Drew McIntyre was asked if him storming out was a seed being planted for CM Punk. Drew McIntyre explained his decision to storm out of Survivor Series last year. He clarified that his exit wasn’t about planting any seeds with Punk or making a statement; he was simply angry. McIntyre said he was pissed off and chose to leave the arena to avoid causing an incident that could negatively affect everyone’s mood and the hard work of the other participants in the match.

McIntyre mentioned that while he understood business reasons for the situation, personally, he was too upset to stay. McIntyre also commented on Seth Rollins’ reaction, noting that if someone he disliked was that close to him, he wouldn’t just stand and swear while being held back; instead, he would have punched Punk in the face.

“That was no seed being planted. I was just angry, and I left the ring and stormed out. I mean, I’m not shy to talk about it. Yeah, I was pissed off, and you’re really saying that you didn’t know about it. I guess a number of things, I can understand business reasons. That’s enough for me to make those decisions. Personally, yeah, I was pissed off and I chose to leave the arena because I’m not going to cause an incident that’s going to affect everybody’s mood afterward and the guys in the match that worked so hard. People were asking me about Seth’s reaction; maybe that was Seth’s legit reaction, but to me, I couldn’t have stood out there. If somebody’s that close to me that I don’t like that much, I wouldn’t stand and swear and have people hold me back. I would have walked right up to them and punched them in the face. So I chose to leave the building.”

CM Punk would ultimately defeat Drew McIntyre at the WWE Bash in Berlin Premium Live Event but McIntyre took Punk out on this past week’s episode of Monday Night RAW, so we’ll have to see how their feud will progress as we head towards Bad Blood in October.
