Drew McIntyre Received Backstage Heat Over ”The Chosen One” Moniker

Drew McIntyre remains one of the top Superstars in WWE and certainly has a lot of passion for the pro wrestling business. His first run in the company wasn’t smooth sailing for the Scottish Warrior at all and it appears he even had heat over his ‘Chosen One’ moniker.

McIntyre was introduced as ‘The Chosen One’ by Vince McMahon as many thought he was destined for greatness. That never was the case and McIntyre even had some reservations about his first stint in WWE.

While speaking to Chris Van Vliet, Drew McIntyre was asked if he felt like ”The Chosen One” in WWE. Drew McIntyre revealed that he faced significant backlash backstage in WWE over his “Chosen One” moniker. He didn’t fully realize the extent of the professional jealousy and resentment from other wrestlers, who were upset about his opportunities despite their years of experience.

McIntyre acknowledged that while he felt the impact of these opportunities, he could have approached things differently if he had the right tools and knowledge at the time. He believes that everyone’s journey is meant to lead them to their final destination.

“I guess in certain ways, but a lot of people did not like it backstage, so I didn’t realize how significant the professional jealousy was. The things being said were all out of jealousy, with people wondering why this kid was getting a huge opportunity when they had been around for years. I certainly felt the impact of those opportunities on TV for a period. Looking back, I know I could have done things a bit differently, but I just didn’t have the tools at the time to do so. We all go through our journeys for a reason to end up at the final destination.”

Nevertheless, many would agree Drew McIntyre suits the moniker much more now considering he is already a 3-time World Champion in the company and his stock only continues to rise with each and every passing week.
