Drew McIntyre recently opened up about the creative freedom under Triple H’s leadership in WWE, sharing how it has impacted not only his own character but the overall product.

Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, McIntyre detailed how the change in creative leadership since 2023 has allowed him and others to explore their characters more deeply, marking a significant shift in the WWE landscape.

“It’s all across the board, with the new management coming in, new creative process, Hunter kinda leading the ship and giving a lot of people, basically everybody, but specifically those that have been there for a minute the chance to ‘Hey if you’ve got more to show, then show it. This is your chance, there’s no wrong answers, go for it and if it fails it’s on you,’” McIntyre said.

Drew emphasized the importance of authenticity in his portrayal of his character, noting that his current persona is an amplified version of himself.

“I’m willing to take a wrist slap, a fining, a firing to be true to myself, and the relationship I have now with creative, they know the character because it’s essentially just me with the volume turned up.”

McIntyre also touched on his ongoing storyline with CM Punk, acknowledging the ease of portraying the feud given his personal disdain for Punk.

“When it comes to the Punk stuff especially, because I can’t stand the guy, it’s easy.”

Reflecting on the broader changes in WWE, McIntyre praised how many characters have stepped up under Triple H’s guidance, making Raw more engaging despite its three-hour runtime.

“Three hours is still a lot, but it’s a lot easier to digest these days, the show flows so well. There’s so many popular characters it’s amazing to see wrestling so healthy and thriving.”

McIntyre’s last match was a heated loss to CM Punk in a Strap Match at WWE Bash in Berlin, further showcasing the creative freedom that has defined his current character arc.
