Chris Jericho takes great pride in his work with AEW and isn’t afraid to show it. Known for his passion for competing worldwide, his surprise appearance at CMLL Viernes Espectacular came as no shock. Jericho now believes he will have more appearances in CMLL in the future.
Chris Jericho made a surprise appearance at the CMLL event on June 28, where he attacked Mistico and issued a challenge to Mistico, leading to their match being confirmed for CMLL 91 Aniversario. This will be Jericho’s first appearance at Arena Mexico since 1995.
During a September 4th interview on CMLL Informa, Jericho shared that he doesn’t expect CMLL 91 Aniversario to be his only return to Mexico. He expressed interest in competing in future events like the Grand Prix and even participating in a Mask vs. Hair match. Jericho reflected on his long absence from Arena Mexico and emphasized his desire to return multiple times, highlighting his love for Mexican wrestling, the fans, and the talented luchadores in CMLL.
“I would love to be in the Grand Prix and I would love to do a Mask vs. Hair match. All of the things that I’ve done in Mexico in the past, I would love to return to again. It’s amazing to me that it took 30 years to return to Arena Mexico, but I don’t think that this match versus Mistico is the only time that I’ll return. I would like to come back many times. I love wrestling in Mexico, I love the fans, and there’s so many great luchadores in CMLL. There’s no reason why I can’t come back many, many times.’
Jericho also hinted at the possibility of facing Mistico again after CMLL 91 Aniversario, suggesting it could be the beginning of a series of matches. He mentioned the idea of challenging for Mistico’s title and even his mask, potentially setting up a best-of-three series, with the first match at the anniversary show, the second for the NWA Title, and the third for Mistico’s mask.
“Yeah, I think that this could be the first of many matches. I could, after I beat him at the Anniversario, then challenge him for his title, and then when I beat him for his title, then I could challenge him for his mask. I think that that’s something that is a long time coming, as a matter of fact. So maybe we could do a best-of-three series. First one in Arena Mexico at the anniversary, second one can be for the NWA Title, and the third one can be for his mask.”
We will have to wait and see how Chris Jericho will fare against Mistico on the September 13th match, as fans are undoubtedly excited to see what Jericho will be able to accomplish at the event.
