AEW has experienced significant growth over the past five years since its inception. The league now boasts five hours of weekly television programming and continues to expand its pay-per-view offerings each year. Throughout this expansion, AEW fans have consistently demonstrated their loyalty and support, both through their attendance and financial contributions.
During a media call ahead of AEW All Out 2024, Tony Khan revealed that AEW fans spend more on streaming video per month than those of any other sports league. Although Khan did not specify his source for this claim, he confidently asserted that AEW has the most dedicated fanbase in the world.
Tony Khan made a point to say that AEW isn’t the biggest league in the world. That being said, the numbers that their fan base put down to see their programming outranks the rest.
“Did you know, of all the world’s sports leagues, that the league whose fans spend the most money per month on streaming video of every sports league out there? The league who spends, on average, the most per month on streaming video? It’s AEW. It’s ahead of every other sporting league in the world. I’ve never said AEW is the biggest sporting league in the world, but we are a big sports league now, and we have a lot of fans. We also have the greatest avidity of fans of any league in the world. It shows up in the metrics and intangible ways, too. Sure, I didn’t check the decibel meter every five seconds at Wembley Stadium because we were having such a great show, and we were in the moment trying to enjoy it as it was happening.”
AEW does offer a lot of pay-per-view offers, including All In being followed by All Out weeks later. ROH’s Honor Club is also still going each month, and fans outside the United States can enjoy AEW on Fite’s plus subscription platform. It seems that all adds up, and it puts Tony Khan’s company on top.
Only time will tell how much longer it takes before AEW boosts their price, because inflation hits all markets eventually. For now, it appears that Tony Khan’s organization is still doing pretty well as they await the big news to drop about ongoing television rights deal with Warner Bros Discovery.
