Mariah May has been in the spotlight in AEW’s women’s division due to her storyline with Toni Storm and Mina Shirakawa. She is now the AEW Women’s Champion. Mariah recently explained the reason behind slapping her mother at All In, shedding light on the incident that had fans talking.
After nine months with All Elite Wrestling, Mariah May won the AEW Women’s World Championship at All In in her home country of England, in what was truly one of the best moments in AEW history.
One of the most shocking incidents during the match saw Mariah May slapping her mother, who was in the front row in order to support her daughter. May slapped her when her mother told her to stop being so violent.
While speaking on Mostly Sports with Mark Titus and Brandon Walker, Mariah May was asked how it felt for her to slap her mother. She stated that it felt good and shared why she slapped her mother at AEW All In. She explained that she has had ongoing issues with her mother, especially when it comes to her wrestling career. Even though her mother might attend some events, May doesn’t want her there if she’s going to be disruptive.
May recalled a moment when her mother told her to stop during such a significant part of her career. She was upset because she has worked hard, leaving home at 20 and moving to different countries to follow her dream of becoming a world champion. May felt her mother’s interference was unfair and did not support her aspirations.
“Feel good, yeah. I’ve got a real issue with these mother figures in my life. So if she comes to all of your matches..[are you going to slap her every time?] She’s not going to come to all of my matches; she lives in London. She might get an invite to Forbidden Door, maybe, at a push. If she stays in her seat and keeps her mouth shut, I won’t slap her. But she wasn’t in her seat—she was standing up and telling me to stop. Whose own mother tells them to stop? I was trying to become a world champion. I left home at 20 to pursue my dreams of being a wrestler. I’ve moved countries twice because this is all I ever wanted, and she was telling me to stop. She said I was taking it too far.”
Mariah May has also confirmed that she was signed to AEW months before her debut last year. Regardless, we’ll have to wait and see how she will be booked as the AEW Women’s Champion in the coming weeks, as fans hope she doesn’t end up slapping her mother again in the future.
