WWE delivered a thrilling No Mercy event to fans on Sunday at Denver’s Ball Arena, with Oba Femi retaining the NXT North American Title in a decisive fashion, while Tony D’Angelo faced a tough defeat.

Tony D’Angelo, known for his resilience, has been making a name for himself with WWE NXT fans since his debut. Although he didn’t secure a win at No Mercy, he certainly endured a significant beating during the match.

Sean Ross Sapp reported on Fightful Select that D’Angelo raised concerns backstage at No Mercy, as he repeatedly waved off referees to continue the match. At this time, there is no update on the severity of his injury.

“Tony D’Angelo’s injury at No Mercy worried backstage officials, but Tony waved off the referee multiple times throughout the course of his match with Oba Femi. We haven’t heard if he is scheduled for tonight’s show.”

Tony D’Angelo’s booking has been a roller coaster recently. On the May 7 episode of NXT, Dempsey and Borne faced Tyson DuPont and Tyrek Igwe. Before the match, the referee was declared “unavailable,” and Stacks was appointed as the special guest referee, leading to a fast count that cost Dempsey and Borne the match. Following this, an enraged Dempsey granted D’Angelo a title shot at the NXT Heritage Cup. However, the Catch Clause was nullified when D’Angelo and his Family kidnapped Kemp and Borne later that night.

The following week, D’Angelo defeated Dempsey 2–1 in British Rounds Rules to win the Cup, his first singles championship in WWE. However, he lost the Cup back to Dempsey on the August 13 episode of NXT due to interference from NQCC’s new member Wren Sinclair, ending his reign at 90 days. Of couse, on September 1 at NXT No Mercy, D’Angelo failed to capture the NXT North American Championship from Oba Femi.

The Family remains strong, and their presence continues to be felt. As one of the final surviving elements from the premiere episode of NXT 2.0, Tony D’Angelo’s future in NXT is worth watching closely.
