CM Punk’s comeback at the Survivor Series Premium Live Event is undoubtedly one of the best things to happen to WWE, as Punk has established himself as a top star once again. He also had a decisive win over Drew McIntyre at WWE Bash in Berlin and the reason behind that has been revealed.
At the WWE Bash in Berlin Premium Live Event, the rivalry between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre continued with a Strap Match. CM Punk secured a decisive victory by hitting McIntyre with a third and fourth GTS while touching all four corners of the ring.
CM Punk then removed Drew McIntyre’s bracelet before completing the fourth corner for the win. He celebrated by standing over his defeated opponent, who lay on the mat.
Dave Meltzer explained on Wrestling Observer Radio why Punk won so decisively. He noted that Punk had not secured a major victory since joining WWE in November, and the company felt he needed a significant win to establish his status as a major star. Meltzer added that McIntyre was expected to recover from the loss quickly, as he was slated to regain his momentum in just a couple of days.
“Punk made him tap out, He gave him four GTS’s and he touched all four corners without the other guy touching the corner behind him. They did tease that earlier in the match. The basic gist was Punk had not had a big win. He had been in the company since November and they just felt he needed a massive win because he’s a massive star. They felt that Drew can handle it and Drew was going to get his heat back two days later.”
Drew McIntyre exacted revenge on Raw this week by attacking CM Punk and destroying the bracelet Punk had previously removed. Punk had to be stretchered out of the arena as a result. Their ongoing feud will likely culminate in a Hell in a Cell Match at the Bad Blood event, so we’ll have to see how their feud will be booked till then.
