Mariah May had been making headlines in AEW’s women’s division with her ongoing storyline involving Toni Storm and Mina Shirakawa. She is now the AEW Women’s Champion and has revealed that she was actually signed to AEW months before her debut.
After nine months with All Elite Wrestling, Mariah May won the AEW Women’s World Championship at All In in her home country of England, in what was truly one of the best moments in AEW history.
Mariah appeared on Mostly Sports with Mark Titus and Brandon Walker for a talk. She shared that when the first AEW All In happened, she was already signed to AEW but was working in Japan for STARDOM.
Mariah explained that wrestling at Wembley Stadium wasn’t something she had ever imagined, especially since it had been so long since wrestling events were held there. Although she wasn’t on the first Wembley show, she made sure to attend because she wanted to be part of the event. Winning the championship there was a significant and emotional moment for her.
”Well, it (wrestling at Wembley Stadium) really wasn’t a dream come true because I never thought it would happen. There wasn’t wrestling in Wembley for so long until AEW brought it back and then once they brought it back — so when they had their first show in Wembley, I was actually in Japan wrestling. But I was already signed to AEW so I was like, ‘I need to go. Even if I’m not on the show, I just wanna go and be around it,’ and then I won the World Championship. But it’s an amazing place.”
Mariah May made her AEW debut back in November and is clearly one of the biggest stars in the women’s division now. Regardless, we’ll have to wait and see how she will be booked as the AEW Women’s Champion in the coming weeks.
