WWE delivered a major show during Labor Day weekend on Monday Night RAW, ramping up the momentum for the ongoing Intercontinental Championship tournament.

Six WWE Superstars were set to clash in two triple threat matches, battling for a spot in the quarterfinals of the IC Title tournament. The winners would advance to face either Jey Uso or Pete Dunne, with their sights set on challenging Bron Breakker for the championship.

Originally, the match was scheduled to feature Bronson Reed, Ludwig Kaiser, and Sheamus. However, plans changed when Reed tested positive for COVID, forcing his medical disqualification. Reed even hinted at his condition in a now-deleted Instagram post before WWE officially announced the news.

In a twist of fate, Braun Strowman was chosen as Reed’s replacement—a fitting choice, considering Reed had previously obliterated Strowman in a match that escalated into a parking lot brawl. Earlier that night, Ilja Dragunov won his triple threat match, securing his place in next week’s fatal four-way #1 contender bout.

The three competitors wasted no time, going to war from the opening bell. Strowman took a hard bump through the barricade, temporarily removing himself from the action, leaving Sheamus and Ludwig Kaiser to battle it out. In a wild moment, Strowman hurled a desk chair at Kaiser, re-entering the match to a “Holy Sh*t” chant from the crowd.

Back in the ring, Strowman began to dismantle Sheamus, only for the Celtic Warrior to kick out after a two-count following a chokeslam. Sheamus rallied and sent Strowman to the outside, but Kaiser capitalized, hitting the Kaiser Roll on Sheamus for a near fall.

Sheamus answered with a Brogue Kick, but Pete Dunne intervened, dragging Sheamus out of the ring to attack him. Dunne seemed to be everywhere, as he’s also scheduled to face Trick Williams on NXT this week.

Finally, Braun Strowman delivered a devastating running powerslam to Ludwig Kaiser, securing the victory. This win earned Strowman the final spot in next week’s fatal four-way match for the #1 contender position.
